lykke Li - LIttle bit on Moshi Moshi

Artist: Lykke Li
Title: Little Bit / Dance Dance Dance
Label: Moshi Moshi Singles
Quantity Pressed: Not Specified
Release Date: 25/2/2008

Lykke Li is part of the Swedish invasion with the likes of Peter Bjorn and John and the Shout Out Louds even providing vocal backup tracks on Our Ill Wills, the Shout Out Louds last album. Produced by Bjorn it's a mix of slushy dancefloor, large sounding, multilayered polished pop, but not without the cheap junk drum machines and off key ukulele, like in Little Bit. No doubt influenced by Bjorns influence creating a really interesting landscape that keeps the sounds guessing a little bit. Lykke at times sounds like a whispery Bjork with rolling r's and the slightest accent. Like the understated sleeve, she's not all flash and image.

Dance Dance Dance pans back and forth between quiet guitar and rimshots, her tiny voice echo-ing around the mix. She's obviously a talented vocalist and even croons a bit at times, like a futuristic remix of a lost soul singer accapella track. Again the combination of machine, alien sounds with organic low-fi liberal use of disjointed saxaphone and horn section at times is it's strength. Like the PB&J full length it gives a little distance and reality to the foreign borderline too stereotypical dance pop that it successfully navigates.
