Monday, 10 March 2008Thomas Tantrum on Cool for Cats records Thomas Tantrum Swan Lake Label: Cool For Cats Quantity Pressed: 500 Release Date: 24th Mar 2008 The obvious draw here has to be lead singer Meg Thomas who simultaneously is playing the part of a stand off-ish bratty coy little sister and mysterious loner, who no one will ever get to know, but she's not going to be lost in the background behind the moody pop guitar flourishes. The band smartly places her front and center to head up this sugary pop, which Meg keep memorable lyrically strong, this is the kind of stuff that comes straight out of youthful exuberance and plenty of sing a long 'ah ah ah ha ah ha's'. It could be the the direct descendants of a rocking Sundays, those airy or the Cranberry's on their best days. It's a more produced twee pop, shifting across both channels of guitar driven hook filled riffs and changes, like the fierce catchy-ness of Tokyo Police Club or a less angry Be your Own Pet. This new single 'Swan Lake' is set to be released through Fierce Panda's new singles label 'Cool For Cats Records' which recently dropped the Fights like Apes a worthy contemporary in the power pop direction of this offshoot label.
