For the first time thanks in part to music being able to be delivered directly to an audience, that audience helping to make these bands the success they are. That part of the story is new and Polka Party is making their way into this movement. Japanese Haircut pounces straight off with a hyper paced high hat and dirty punk chords. Thomas O delivers the lyrics in a deadpan forced stutter on the beat, not so much singing as he is just forcing them into your ears. Half talking, chanting '...oil slick eyelash... Japanese Haircut...'. It sounds like it's combining Art Brut's naive wit albeit a tougher persona with guitar surges of huge choruses that keep climbing to ever higher heights, then pausing for a drum machine handclaps breakdown and distant splintered guitar lines. It's pure dissafected power pop, brief and to the point. Completely contemporary in the unrelenting aggresive get up and move beats and high guitar lines. Labels: Happy Release records, polka party |
